Single Company, Single Warehouse
When the size of the warehouse and the number of items are relatively small, the
warehouse operation can rely on long-term employees to use their familiarity with
a static product line and know their “way around” the warehouse to facilitate efficient
operations.
New challenges begin when the business growth surpasses the threshold where human
memory can be relied upon. Staff grow and turnover replaces the experienced with
the inexperienced. Product lines expand and change rapidly. New business increases
transaction loads and soon the warehouse operation is overloaded. Picking errors
precipitate customer complaints. Fixing mistakes trap staff into problem solving
that begins to encroach upon the productive time that should be spent filling new
orders. Due dates are missed. Product gets “lost” somewhere on the warehouse floor.
Inventories levels begin to balloon at a pace exceeding sales growth. You’re out
of space.
The CitiXsys WMS will bring your warehouse operation under control. A well-mapped
warehouse layout with bar-coded aisles, sections, shelves and slots lays the foundation
for order and execution in receiving and shipping orders. The CitiXsys WMS employs
the use of wireless handheld scanners that scan the bar-coded product receipts from
vendors and put the product away in specific overstock or pick bins by, again, scanning
the bar-coded bin location to ensure accuracy.
Because product is where it is supposed to be the WMS can reliably direct pickers
through the handheld scanner to the precise bin from which to pick a sales order.
And because the system knows all the orders that are ready for picking, a picker
can be directed to pick one or more orders in a no-backtracking sequence through
the warehouse – saving footsteps and maximizing picker productivity. The WMS scheduled
bin cycle counting ensures inventory counts are accurate, so pickers don’t encounter
unexpected out of stocks or inadequate product availability. Annual or semi-annual
physical inventories may not be needed – saving time and expense. The result, orders
are picked accurately, order fill rates go up because product is where it is expected
to be, and customers get their orders in a timely manner.
To close the process, the order is weighed, packing slips and shipping labels are
printed along with the required bill of lading all automatically. And because the
WMS is integrated with SAP Business One, the delivery notice along with delivery charges
are posted to SAP Business One. All users of the system know the order status
in real-time.
